Star was born with a meta-gene which was not realized until one tragic day when a kid who looked much younger cornered her in an alley and pulled out a gun. The kid seemed quite terrified himself as he demanded all the money in her pockets. After revealing to the kid that she didn't have any money, in an act of self-protection, the 13-year old Star rose her arms and covered her face. She accidentally unlocked her powers in the heat of the moment; freezing her arms, turning her hair and eyes into the white and light blue that you see her with today and striking the kid's chest, knocking him back. Once she realized what she'd done, she stayed in place shocked at the event. The kid, getting up from the cold floor, looked at Liz in awe. He couldn't find the strength to speak until after he saw her running away, calling her to come back.
Trying to cover her hair with a hoodie, she ran up to her apartment and nearly making it past her step-father. Stopping her and asking where his beer was, he pulled out a gun. Star threatened Ronnie with his prison sentence if shot her which lead to a smack with the gun on her face that knocked her down, uncovering her hair. Laughing and accusing Liz of dying her hair, he kicked her in the stomach. She ran to her room and locked the door before he could 'finish the job', taking comfort in her brother as she sobbed.

^{Step-Father: Ronnie Ramon, her step-father and worst nightmare. Introduced to her at a young age as a great man of the law (police officer), she was very excited to add someone to her family. But the situation quickly turned sour when Liz accidently nocked over his beer whilst playing around with her brother. This was when Ronnie first attacked the two, destroying their image of both him and their mother.}
^{Mother: Teresa Reinoso, her mother was once a highly regarded physicist in Metropolis but traded in her career and dignity for a bottle of liquor after her husband died. After allowing this strange and cruel man, Ramon, into their home, Teresa officially lost the respect and love from her children.}
^{Siblings: Jonathan Villegas, Liz' older brother and former best friend. Their relationship used to be pretty close due to the fact that they both had to deal with Ronnie's abuse at young ages. This relationship, however, rapidly decreased when he seemingly abandoned her when she was 15 to join the army. This event was later followed by Jon coming back three years later without feeling anything under his waist due to an almost fatal blow to his spine. He became obsessed with the idea of walking again and made some not-so-smart decisions with a man who promised a lot more than being able to walk again. While gaining the ability to walk, his mind was also affected, damaging his frontal lobe. This made him fearless and very aggressive ultimately leading to the murder of Ronnie Ramon and the attempted murder of his own sister.}
